Google Drive storage prices slashed, now well below Dropbox and OneDrive
Google has lowered the prices of paid plans of its Drive cloud storage
service. Now users will have to just pay $1.99 (Rs. 120 approximately)
per month for 100GB storage (previously $4.99 per month), $9.99 (Rs. 600
approximately) per month for 1TB storage (previously $49.99), and
$99.99 (Rs. 6,000 approximately) for 10TB storage.
Notably, the new
Google Drive storage prices
are way below what OneDrive and Dropbox charge. Microsoft's recently rebranded OneDrive costs $25 (Rs. 1,500 approximately) per year for
only 50GB storage, while 100GB OneDrive storage space costs about $50
(Rs. 3,000 approximately) per year. Dropbox
charges $9.99 (Rs. 600
approximately) a month - or $99 (Rs. 6,000 approximately) a year if paid
annually - for 100GB of storage.
it's worth pointing out that
Google is still offering 15GB free Drive storage to all Google service
users, while Dropbox and OneDrive offer only 2GB and 7GB respectively
for free.
Announcing the move via a blog post, Google said, "Having launched Google Drive just two years ago, we're excited that
so many people are now using it as their go-to place for keeping all
their files. Whether it's all the footage of your kids' baseball games,
the novel you're working on, or even just your grocery list for the
week, we all have files that are too important to lose. Today, thanks to
a number of recent infrastructure improvements, we're able to make it
more affordable for you to keep everything safe and easy to reach on any
device, from anywhere.
In May last year Google giant announced
that instead of offering 10GB storage
for Gmail and another 5GB for Drive and Google+ Photos, it would be
offering 15GB of unified storage, which can be used between Drive,
Gmail, and Google+ Photos.
